2014 Remodeling Trends

It’s hard to believe that 2013 is almost over. With the excitement of the upcoming new year, we can’t wait to see what remodeling projects our clients have in store for us. At Mountainwood Homes, 2013 felt like ‘the year of the addition,’ which we had been waiting a while to see make a comeback. Kitchens and Bathrooms are always going to be popular remodels since they can improve the livability of your family’s home for years to come.

According to Realtor.com, ‘home remodeling is back,’ and they list their take on the top 5 trends we will start seeing in 2014:

1) Modern Kitchens
61 percent of remodelers surveyed expect to complete kitchen remodels in 2014, more than any other room in the house. And, those remodels are expected to follow a new trend: modern, white/grey cabinetry, glossy finishes and minimalistic designs.

2) Brass Accents
Rustic, dull and hammered brass is in.

3) Updated Bathrooms
According to the Hanley Wood survey, bathrooms came in second to the kitchen with 58 percent of remodelers planning to do bathroom remodels in 2014.

4) Vibrant Colors
In 2014, color will be more of a focal point and even more vibrant with colors such as Green Flash, Lemon Zest, Nectarine and Rouge Red, according to Pantone.

5) Sustainable Materials
“Energy efficiency is becoming an assumption, not an add-on,” says Craig Webb, editor-in-chief of Remodeling Magazine. Next year, remodels will include more renewable materials such as bamboo, energy-efficient appliances and additional designs that incorporate the local climate.
