Remodeling to Age in Place

Getting older…it’s the elephant in the room that no one wants to think about until it’s staring at you in the face.

With over 77 million Boomers (28% of the U.S. population), the home building industry is equipped to address the concerns of this growing population.

If you’re thinking about remodeling, there are several features to think about doing now that will benefit you for years to come. These improvements will allow you the freedom to safely live in your existing home and be more independent.

These improvements will also help if your aging parents come to stay under your roof.

Mountainwood Home’s own Ivan France said he’s had more and more conversations with clients who are thinking ahead to the future.

“There are many small, simple things you can plan for that will help make your home more accessible down the road,” he said. “Creating larger doorways, adding the proper backing in for grab bars and opting for a curb less shower can all be integrated into our design for you.”

Adding a hand shower or bench to a walk-in shower is easier to accommodate a walker, wheelchair and makes it easier to get around.

If you’re planning to stay in your home for years to come,  our team can suggest ways to increase functionality and livability of your home.
