Want to remodel this year? Now is the time!

As summer approaches, it’s the kickoff to sunny weather, longer days, and an indicator that the year is already half over.

Still haven’t gotten around to starting your remodeling projects? If you don’t start today, you’re likely going to run into the holidays. Keep your eye on the prize for a new kitchen to entertain in this winter.

The Mountainwood Homes team is always talking about the schedule. We like to set expectations and map out how we’re going to get from concept to completion. The upfront planning and preparation to start construction requires some critical steps to ensure its smooth sailing from here on out.

Understanding the Timeline

While every home and project is different, we’ve completed thousands of projects so we know what to expect. A typical project timeline looks like this:

Planning – 4-6 weeks once Mountainwood is engaged, completes a site visit, Design Agreement signed and a fix-bid is presented

Selections – 5 weeks of material selections with our Design Team

Engineering – Depends on the size of the project, but typically 2-5 weeks

Permitting – Depends on County; Multnomah County is running 6-8 weeks out to obtain a permit

Construction – For a typical kitchen remodel, expect 6-8 weeks of working in your home. An addition can take 3-5 months, and new homes can run 4-6+ months.

It will always take longer than you think. We want our clients to understand what’s involved so you have clear and realistic expectations. We wish we could show up, make a mess, and give you a new kitchen in week like you see on TV, but there’s a lot you’re not seeing behind the scenes. Don’t start in August and wonder why your remodel isn’t complete in time for the holidays.
