Our homeowners are getting ready for retirement and will be making a big move from Maryland to Oregon soon. Their contemporary, custom home takes in 360-degree, panoramic views of the surrounding farmlands and vineyards. The Seattle-based architectural firm Stillwater Dwellings designed the home using their modern, panelized, prefabrication construction system and our team was able to bring it to life through our design and construction process. The homeowners were great clients who were open to using our design advice and expertise. There was a trust level that was necessary to build from such a long distance.
The Northwest contemporary style home features various floor to ceiling windows. The modern home is vaulted in two directions with a center spine resembling a butterfly. A signature, architectural "visor" feature on the exterior is carried throughout the interior as well with wood soffits with LED lighting. This detail brings your eye down from the tall, vaulted ceiling. The home’s minimalist design is warm and inviting by using various wood tones and textural fireplace stone.
- Homeowners lived across the country so we had to build the home despite only a handful of in-person visits.
- The custom home site did not have power or utilities - the home was built completely on a generator.
We made good use of our time together and relied heavily on our construction management system to communicate during the design and construction phases.
