OPEN ENDED
The main floor of this Lake Oswego home was in need of an update to migrate from the style of 1984 toward current trends. The clients desired a more open concept floor plan so with some modifications to the footprint and removing walls that enclosed the kitchen, the entire first floor is brighter and more open. In addition to updates in the kitchen and living room, the powder bathroom, laundry room, entry, dining and living rooms were also refreshed.
Challenges
- Extremely low soffits and a coffered, sheetrock, soffit that delineated the nook from the kitchen
- The ceilings all needed to match at the same height
- Ample framing work was required to structurally support the opening of walls
- Incorporating the existing garden and side windows into the new design
Solutions
- Removed wall between kitchen and dining/family room
- Relocated appliances
- Enlarged Island
- Removed soffits in kitchen
- Installed bench seat in nook
- Widened opening into kitchen
- Laced new wood into existing hardwoods in dining and living room
- Updated wet bar in family room

Hear from the Homeowner
“Everyone from Mountainwood was very professional and did their best to make sure we were pleased every step of the way. They worked really hard to be respectful of our space and keep things running on schedule even though we kept adding new projects. Heather was incredible in guiding our vision with her design expertise. Steve Hunt - the nicest man in the world - was incredible patient with us and went out of his way to make sure things were just right. We really appreciated Adam’s perfectionism with our fireplace - it turned out great. Every single person from Mountainwood was extremely friendly, and we enjoyed having them in our home. Thank you!”
