Over the last few years, our clients have been modernizing their traditional home to better suit their contemporary taste. We moved outside to the porch to update the tired early 1990s builder cedar front porch with lattice. The client’s main goal was to create an outdoor entertaining area so they could utilize that side of the home and enjoy the sweeping views and sunsets while entertaining friends and family.
The challenge was to reel in our client’s ideas and take their Northwest traditional home and make sure it looks great but blends with the rest of the homes in the established SW Portland neighborhood.
- Contemporary mahogany wood columns and deck skirting that complement the custom fabricated metal railing with matching wood accents and integrated low-voltage lighting.
- The top of the patio is 2’x2’ concrete pavers, and the sidewalk is sand finished concrete with corbeled treads.
- The structurally functionally columns on the porch needed to stay, but we added a modern twist on them.
