It’s hard to believe this is the same space! We recently wrapped up construction at the home of Stacey Lynn, our favorite K103 on-air personality, for her second home remodel with Mountainwood Homes. This time around, we tackled the fireplace and completely transformed it into a timeless focal point. New hardwood flooring was installed throughout her home to blend into areas where she had existing hardwoods. Check out the before and after photos on Stacey Lynn’s home remodel.

The Backstory to Stacey Lynn’s Home Remodel
Aside from wanting to update the look and feel of her home, there was another reason for the remodel. Stacey’s doctor advised for her to rip up the old carpet throughout the house to help with terrible allergies that her family experiences each year. Allergens like dust mites and pet dander can get trapped in the carpet causing allergic reactions to occur, so it was an easy choice! Keep the cat but rip up the carpet!
New Hardwood Floors
Then, we ripped up the old carpet and replaced it with solid oak hardwoods like the existing flooring in the home. The beautiful, new hardwoods were added to the family room, staircase, bedrooms and upstairs hallway. Then, we refinished the existing hardwoods to blend it all together.

The new fireplace has built-in shelves on the side to hide the cable box and gaming consoles. It utilizes the depth and keeps things out of sight.
Next, let’s talk about the fireplace tile. While the mosaic tile is only about four inches around the gas fireplace insert, it adds the perfect amount of bling. The marble, groutless, mosaic tile from Emser Tile creates a dimensional look. Stacey and her Mountainwood designer Darby had fun looking at all the tiles at Contract Furnishings Mart until they found the perfect one.
Gas Fireplace Insert
The old and smoky wood burning stove was removed. The outdated brick surround had to go too. We needed a clean slate for the family room remodel. The brick jetted out into the room and created a prominent focal point – but for all the wrong reasons.
We framed in a new fireplace between the two existing windows and installed a Heat & Glo Slimline Series gas fireplace. The new fireplace is the ideal combination of flame, glow, and logs. It looks so realistic! Now, the room has a cozy ambiance that the family never wants to leave.
The walls also got a fresh coat of paint. If you’re looking for the perfect gray, check out Sherwin-Williams Repose Gray (SW 7015). It is the ideal neutral color – the perfect backdrop for Stacey to decorate for the changing seasons. The millwork was also painted using Sherwin-Williams Extra White (SW 7006).
We love working with Stacey! Not only is she practically our neighbor, she’s so much fun to work with. When she called us up to discuss her second project, we assembled the team again and got to work! Robert went over to meet with her and put the project together. Stacey worked with our Designer Darby to nail down the look and feel of the space and make all the design selections (seriously, the most fun part). David led the day-to-day construction in her home alongside our Carpenters and trade partners. We can’t forget to give a shoutout to Carpenter Gaspar who was such a huge help to bring the project to life. Stacey’s family misses seeing his smiling face around the house now that it’s all done!
Loving the Finished Space
“The fireplace is the new focal point. I sit here with the fireplace going, in my cozy grey blanket, and my cup of coffee and do my show preparation at 4am. We literally spend all of our time in here.”
