5 reasons to remodel this summer

With graduations, summer vacations, work sabbaticals and warmer weather ahead, your family’s routine may be different this time of year. So why not really shake it up with a kitchen or bathroom remodel? Plus, the sooner you get started, the more time you’ll have to enjoy your space when you’re stuck inside this fall. Plus, who doesn’t want to dream about a new kitchen for holiday entertaining?

Here are 5 reasons to embark on a remodel in the next few months:

1) You’re empty nesters!

The kids have beat up the house for years; now that they’re graduating and heading off to college in the fall, you can reclaim your home and do all of the upgrades you’ve patiently been waiting to do. Don’t worry! The kids can enjoy the newly revamped kitchen and updated bathrooms when they come back on the weekend or for Christmas break. Our clients often find that their family home dynamics have changed and they no longer need the space allocated the way they’re used to. It’s finally time to tailor the space for their new lifestyle.

2) It’s BBQ weather

During a kitchen remodel, you’ll be displaced from your kitchen for several weeks. While we recommend setting up a temporary kitchen in the home for the fridge, microwave and a dishwashing station, there’s no better time to brush up on your BBQ skills than smack dab in the middle of a summer remodel. Trust us – take out and pizza can get old night after night, so we suggest investing in some paper plates and utilizing your backyard for family dinners and outdoor living.

3) You’re on vacation anyway!

The summer months are a busy time for families. With summer camps and long-awaited vacations on the calendar, there’s so much to see and do that you won’t get cabin fever or mind being forced to get out of the house for a while and explore our beautiful area. From camping, outdoor activities and weekend getaways, not only will you have a beautiful home to return to, but you’ll have some great family memories as well. Certain projects are easier to do when there’s no one home – refinishing hardwood floors and painting can produce fumes so it’s best to plan around those critical events.

4) Flexible work schedule

Many companies offer flexible summer hours so you may have more available time for meetings with our design team. It’s wise to take on on a remodel when you have the time and energy required to make decisions which can often be hard to do during certain times of year at the office. Depending on your profession, the summer may be an ideal time to add a large project to your plate. Teachers are singing, “School’s Out for Summer,” and CPAs are breathing a sigh of a relief to have April in the rear window.

5) Heat Wave

Depending on the complexity of your remodel, weather can play a significant role in how the process goes. While we work in all seasons, dry weather provides ideal conditions for both the workers and the homeowners. The above-average temperatures are expected to continue throughout the summer so if you’re thinking about opening up your home with an addition, windows, roofing or exterior updates – it’s a great time to do so.

The holidays will be here before you know it! If you’re thinking about a new kitchen, bathroom or addition, let us know so we can schedule a time to meet with you to discuss!
