Mountainwood Utilizes FIR Program

Permits can often be the wild card stage of a remodel. Depending on the governing jurisdiction, it’s an unknown waiting game, but the City of Portland has cracked the code.

After a long wait on the waiting list, Mountainwood Homes was accepted to the City of Portland’s Field Issuance Remodel (FIR) Program. The program simplifies the permitting process by expediting the plan review and permit issuance. If needed, FIR staff is available for consultation before the preliminary documents are prepared which saves on time on the front end of the project. Most FIR projects move quickly through the permitting process which eliminates the resubmittals of permit documents, and your job can start sooner.

The program assigns a single inspector to provide all FIR services which allows us to work directly with our inspector concerning all details of a project. Our inspector can determine by phone or site visit if minor projects will be granted an immediate permit. This is a huge benefit to our homeowners and our team who are eager to begin the construction phase and see their project come to life. This partnership creates a working relationship between our team and the City inspectors.

“The program is super helpful,” said Chad Wisniewski, project manager with Mountainwood Homes. “When the City of Portland is three days out for an inspection, it slows things down. But now, I can just text our guy and ask, ‘Can you inspect tomorrow?’ And he gets back to me right away. Otherwise you’re just on the route slip and the chances of meeting your inspector are slim to none without the FIR program.”

The program has been very helpful in reducing time during the permitting and construction process.

“We have saved anywhere from 4-10 weeks on various projects,” said Mountainwood President and Owner Robert Wood.
“For now, this program is only offered in Portland, but it is highly recommended that homeowners search for a FIR-approved contractor for their remodel.”
