Love it or List It?

We all get sucked into those HGTV shows where they address the age old question: remodel and stay or sell it and buy something else?

Many of our clients realize that their home no longer functions for their needs, so they consider moving and decide to look at what’s available in the Portland market. Several come to the realization that they can’t get what they want; Inventory is low which causes many people to get discouraged with the reality that they may not be able to get their dream home in this competitive market. Or they may have to give something up in order to get something else on the list – location, home size, lot size, etc.

As remodelers and new home builders, we have clients all over the board in these scenarios. Have a lot already? No? Good luck! On the flip side, some folks are stumbling upon property that works for their needs and are snatching it up as fast as they can. Or they’re purchasing homes with good bones that they know they can remodel to bring it up to speed for their needs.

When we meet with potential clients to learn about their project, the conversation drifts to, “How long are you planning on staying in the home?” Remodel for yourself, not for the next owners (but don’t forget about them!)

If you are planning to move within the next few years, you can embark on a remodel to make it both functional for yourself and appeal to potential buyers down the road. Sellers are looking for ways to get top dollar for their listing and differentiate their home from the rest, but wouldn’t it be nice to take advantage of the updates in your home while you live there?

The Design Team brings their expertise to help make long-lasting choices that work for your needs now and also create a great palette for future homeowners to work with. Large areas of color such as paint, carpet, hardwood stain are important.

If this is the home you’re going to raise your family in, retire in and be your forever home, then there’s really no limit in terms of design and material selections. Our team is here to help guide you to make informed decisions. We will walk you through all phases of the process, and you will have an integral part of making your house truly your own.
