The Project:
After keeping an eye out for available listings in the desirable Hartung Farms community, our clients jumped at a 1977, 1-level that came on the market and bought the home in 2016. The couple knew it needed to be re-imagined, and the kitchen was at the heart of the renovation.
After reading a former colleague’s review on Houzz, they called us to come over and see what we could do to make a comfortable, open-concept space with a contemporary edge.
Before/After:
Removed load bearing walls that enclosed dining and family room, and added custom Alder room divider/shoji screen with steel I-beam supports. To accommodate the new room divider/shoji screen, concrete footings were poured, two steel columns were fabricated, and three large beams were added to support the roof since two load bearing walls were removed to create a large, open-concept kitchen.
After
Created bar focal point; floating shelves with recessed accent lighting puts the bar on display with antique mirrored backsplash.
Oversized island creates a functional workspace – perfect for entertaining. Mixed accents create a modern palette; Grey island cabinets with flat black hardware pops against white perimeter shaker cabinets with beaded molding and satin brass pulls. Contrasted solid surfaces with honed Caesarstone quartz on the island while perimeter countertops are Black Pearl Satin Granite with leathered finish.
We’re thrilled with how this home turned out! Opening up the space makes this home feel twice as big and suits modern living. The biggest takeaway? Don’t wait to remodel. Move in, update and enjoy your space sooner than later!
