Before/After: Portland Outdoor Living

The Project:

This 2010 Northwest Portland home checked all the boxes but lacked a functional outdoor living area. The backyard featured a small concrete pad which was tight with a BBQ and patio furniture. Our clients wanted a space to entertain and spend time as a family – rain or shine. To extend the functionally of their home, we designed and built a dream living space with covered patio, outdoor fireplace with hidden TV, composite decking and new, double patio slider to connect to the adjacent family room to the outdoor area.

Before/After:

The existing windows were replaced with double sliding patio door to connect the family room to the new outdoor living space.

A recessed TV is hidden above the fireplace behind wooden doors. Cultured stone-faced fireplace with cornerstones dresses up the wood-burning fireplace with gas assist. A solid surface, chiseled-edge granite hearth and one piece wooden mantle completes the focal point of the outdoor space.

After

Tongue and groove tight knot cedar covers the patio cover ceiling. We installed 4 VELUX fixed skylights overhead in the new patio cover. A hanging, decorative light fixture and recessed can lights are on a dimmer switch to set the mood.

After

A composite deck was added with a step along the back edge. We blended the new roof into the existing.

How would changing your outdoor area affect your family’s life? Whether it’s adding more space, a covered area or an outdoor entertaining space, there are options to remodel your home to get the most of your space year round. We’d love to discuss the possibilities with you.
